Paul McCartney’s Historic ‘SNL50’ Performance

Paul McCartney's Historic 'SNL50'

Paul McCartney returned to Saturday Night Live for its 50th-anniversary special. He closed the show with a medley from Abbey Road. He performed “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight,” and “The End.”

A Legendary Return

McCartney’s SNL history is rich. He performed on the show multiple times. He also made cameos and appeared on the 40th-anniversary special. This appearance honored one of rock’s most iconic albums.

Star-Studded Night

The SNL50 special featured many musical guests. Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard covered “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter sang together. Lil Wayne performed with The Roots and DJ T. Lewis. Nirvana and Post Malone joined forces for “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

The Beatles’ Near Reunion

SNL almost hosted a Beatles reunion in 1976. Lorne Michaels offered them $3,000. John Lennon said he and McCartney considered it. They were watching the show together but were too tired to go.

McCartney’s SNL Legacy

McCartney’s SNL appearances go beyond music. He’s been in several comedy sketches. One memorable bit was with Chris Farley on The Chris Farley Show.

The Beatles’ Continued Success

McCartney’s SNL50 appearance celebrates The Beatles’ legacy. In 2023, they had their first No. 1 Hot 100 debut with “Now and Then.” The song also topped the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart. It became their 35th Hot 100 top 10 hit.
