For the first time, the 19th Gala Alternatif de la Musique Indépendante du Québec (GAMIQ) was hosted at Foufounes Électriques. The night blended poetry, tributes, and powerful musical performances. This year’s event was dedicated to Lucien Francœur, Jean-Sébastien Larouche, and Sylvain Binette, icons of Quebec’s music scene who passed away this year.

Aut’chose opened the evening with its final performance. Vocalists Johnny Maldoror, Rox Arcand, and Charles Laplante took on Lucien Francœur’s legacy. The crowd was captivated by this symbolic tribute. Other notable moments included a rare appearance by Deja Voodoo’s Gerard van Herk, joined by Bloodshot Bill, to honor their influence on the 1980s alternative scene.

P’tit Belliveau triumphed, winning Artiste de l’année and Album Hors-Québec. The evening also crowned DVTR as a surprise standout with three Luciens, solidifying their status. Other winners included Kaya Hoax (Espoir 2025), and Population II (Album Rock de l’année).

Performances ranged from experimental drone metal by thisquietarmy to electrifying punk by Ghun Twei, delivering energy and emotion. Sandra Contour teased her upcoming single, La Folle aux Chats de Baie-St-Pouèl, while France D’Amour recited poetry from Plume Latraverse.

Benoit Poirier shone as the evening’s host, ensuring a seamless and festive atmosphere. The GAMIQ concluded on a high note, celebrating the creativity of Quebec and Canadian musicians.
